Welcome to Ludlow Holidays

View of Ludlow from the CastleLudlow is an historic mediaeval market town in South Shropshire, centered around Ludlow Castle. Famed for its gastronomy it is the perfect centre to explore this beautiful area. It is close to the border with Wales and is in an area of outstanding Natural Beauty.

There are almost 500 listed buildings in Ludlow itself including some fine examples of medieval and Tudor-style half-timbered buildings. The parish church, St Laurence Church, is the largest in the county.

Ludlow Gastronomy

For some time Ludlow has been famed for its gastronomy at one stage having more Michelin Stars per capita than anywhere else in Europe.  Today there is La Bécasse and Mr Underhills. There is also the world renowned Ludlow Food Festival which takes place every year in September.

The festival shows off the wares of well over a 100 independent food and drink producers from the Marches area in the Castle. As well as inside the castle you can also enjoy the Ludlow Sausage trail where all the local butches compete for the best sausage and The Festival Loaf trail where the towns many bakers compete for you guessed it the best Loaf! There are also various talks on food around the town.

Started back in 1995 this has grown into the UK's most important food festival and attracts large numbers of visitors from within the UK and increasingly from Overseas! None the less the organisers have stayed true to their roots and still show off the best of the regions food and drinks and to giving visitors a good time.

Ludlow Arts

Ludlow is also an interesting town for the arts. Every year there is the Ludow Festival centred around the Castle, described correctly as the real star of the show. Colin George in his review in the 1990s described it as: "there are few open air auditoria that combine such perfect acoustics with visual grandeur”.

First held in the 1950's to raise money for The Parish church of St. Lawrences this has grown into an annual event organised by volunteers with highlights including Shakespeare in the Castle and a concert on the final night and various other events held in and around Ludlow.

There are also a large number of art shops in Ludlow and in 2008 Ludlow College started a Contemporary Art Exhibition in August which we hope will continue to grow.

Ludlow Accomodation

There are a wide variety of hotels, bed and breakfasts and self catering accomodation to suit all tastes and budgets both in the town itself and outside. This site aims to be a resource for the best of these. Any comments or if you have a business that you would like to see featured on Ludlow Holidays please feel free to contact us.
